YOU CAN BE A VII. IF YOU GIVE UP EVERYTHING.

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed …and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that's not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she's only beginning to understand.

REVIEW

Holy crap! That was amazing!! The secrets, the double identities, the hidden enemies, everywhere you turned there was something new to find out.

I absolutely loved Pawn and I am embarrassed that it took me so long to read it.  Yes, it is another dystopian and yes it does borrow similarities from other dystopian stories but, really, what do you expect? Pawn has it's own share of unique qualities and that helped to keep it interesting as well as making it feel new.

From the start you get sucked into the story and begin to develop an understanding of Kitty and what it must feel like to be told that you aren't worthy of the life you have.  She really grows as a character when she learns the meaning of sacrifice.  She also knows what it's like to not be able to trust anyone.

My one concern with Kitty is her never-ending ability to forgive and trust Knox.  All throughout the book he's promising to protect her and Benjy, to not let anything happen to them but each time something does.  Yet when he promises once again to protect them, she agrees to do what he wants.  Come on Kitty! Show a little hesitation, get mad, get even!

I'm pretty excited to move on to Captive, which is the next installment in the series.  Pawn left me wondering what the heck will happen with it's jaw dropping cliff hanger. Highly recommend this one!

  1. Totally loved this, too. And exactly, it's not exactly original, it uses the same formula of anything similar to it, but it makes it it's own and it did feel unique. And ugh, I just loved it. :D
