Review: Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover

FINDING CINDERELLA
Author: Colleen Hoover
Publication Date: 10/14/2013
Audience: YA
Genre: Contemporary, Romance

A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.

When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it.

REVIEW

How the heck does she do it?!

Colleen Hoover took a 90 page short novella and jammed it full of feels.  Funny feels, swoony feels, sad feels, soo many feels.  And she did it from a male POV, which I do horrible at reading!

The relationship between Daniel and Six is a whirlwind, almost leaning towards insta-love, but it works.  There is a lot of chemistry that makes their relationship work and it's a fun relationship where they are confident in themselves and each other.  There is a secret, aside from who Cinderella ends up being, that I did NOT expect and it really brought up a serious topic, if only for a short while.

Finding Cinderella takes place after Hopeless/Losing Hope and is the story of Holder's best friend Daniel.  Some people might say that Daniel read a little girlish, but it worked for me.  In fact I'm reconsidering my original opinion of not wanting to read Losing Hope which is the same timeline/story as Hopeless but from Holder's POV, I'm thinking it deserves a shot.

Colleen Hoover continues to be a must-buy author in my opinion.
